In addition to plastic bags from supermarkets, etc, I've been noticing that a lot of things I use (food stuffs) come in plastic bags that I had just been tossing out so I've been saving those and turning them inside out and throwing them in with the wash to clean and LINE dry, obviously they'll melt if you toss them in the dryer.   Our oranges come in plastic bags...  cascadian farm organic fruits & veggies...  the local weekly paper with the sales circulars in it gets delivered in a bright orange plastic bag...  our organic potatoes...  organic carrots...

The only thing I'd be careful about is the organic carrots bag I washed, the ink rubbed off a bit.  It didn't end up on any of the clothes, I'm guessing it rubbed off and got drained off with the rinse water, but you probably shouldn't wash the bags with your white load...   Wink

Janet, do you know of any sites that have sewing or other type projects like this that don't require you to be able to crochet? I can't do it to save my life, but I would love to be able to create some of these cool recycled treasures!

I'll poke around online for some this coming week, I don't know of any off hand.  Do you have a sewing machine, or do you hand sew?

I have a bureau in our basement full of fabric, a dresser full of fabric, and a big stack of "to mend" items waiting for me to buy the matching color thread to mend them.   Wink  I am always crocheting or sewing or something with my hands, helps with my nerves.

I have a machine, but I hand sew too. Its harder to do during the day with the 17month old mobile monster on the loose  Wink but I would like to do it. I've sewed some curtains in my house & can do pillows, nothing too elaborate. But I really want to get into it more. I need something to do over the cold months (which seem to last half the year....)
