"Originally Pyrex bowls and baking dishes were made from borosilicate glass, which is very resistant to thermal shock (temperature change). Currently, Pyrex is made of soda-lime glass because it is very inexpensive. But Soda-lime glass is not resistant to temperature changes and tends to explode after it weakens.
